Description:

Functions as a working member of the store team, assuming responsibility for many of the Restaurant Manager's supervisory duties, relating in particular to opening and closing activities and the running of the operation towards the extremities of the operating hours. As the Shift Manager demonstrates more competence, the Restaurant Manager will delegate more of his/her responsibilities to the Shift Manager.

The Shift Manager will:

  • Work with the Restaurant Manager to achieve store targets and company standards, filling in for the Restaurant Manager when needed.
  • Assign staff on a daily basis in an equitable manner, deploying them in line with operational requirements. Ensure that work stations and work flow are functioning in a safe and organized manner.
  • Promote and model the prompt and friendly treatment of customers in all aspects of service. Investigate and handle customer complaints and accidents tactfully.
  • Work with counter staff to maintain a safe, clean and attractive presentation of store premises, both interior and exterior. Monitor counter staff uniforming and hygiene, follow up as required.
  • Monitor all aspects of the presentation of product: appearance, freshness, portioning, handling and availability. Train staff and follow up as required.
  • Participate actively in regular store management meetings. Prepare all shift related operations reports in an accurate, complete, neat and timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

The only difference between the Manager Trainee and the Shift Manager is that the Manager Trainee has not completed the Training cycle and does not yet have the experience to run a shift. Future responsibilities however, are the same as the Shift Manager.
